Joseph H. Messina Children’s Center students gain advantage with donated tablets

In December 2016, the officers of Lee County Port Authority won the hearts of children, parents and the staff when it donated 30 state-of-the-art e-learning tablets during a special visit to the Joseph H. Messina Children’s Center just before Christmas with Santa in tow. Two months later, teachers are putting the devices through their paces to affect positive learning outcomes for the students at the Child Care of Southwest Florida early learning facility for years and even lifetimes to come.

Exciting endeavors on the horizon for 2017

  • We've been actively engaged with the departments of early learning at FSW and FGCU, including participation as contributors and as a panelist in FSW’s early learning ground breaking cost study.
  • Child Care of Southwest Florida is excited to participate in Lee County Public School District's Vision 20/20, a strategic plan with a strong commitment to private and public collaboration in early learning initiatives.
  • The Lee County Public School District approved CCSWFL to become an Early Head Start site at our P.A. Geraci Center in Dunbar.
  • Our recent community participation in local events includes:
    • In January, 160 children from Lee County schools attended the STEM Tour event. As a sponsor, CCSWFL had a hospitality tent and science experiments for the kids and families.
    • Our CEO, Carol Conway, recently presented at Home Depot’s South Florida Women in Leadership Conference, with 450 women from South Florida in attendance.
    • Our centers are full and bustling with children, activities and community engagement events.
