Father's Day 2015.jpgFebruary 14, 2018: Dad’s come and share your love at Geraci.  On February 14, we welcome dad’s or any male figure to come out to read to your child’s class, help out with crafts, have a breakfast or lunch with your child or just spend the day.  Dads are important too!!

February 23, 2018: This year each classroom will spotlight a different African American inventor.  Please check with your child’s teacher to see if you could assist in any way.  The inventors are as follows: Jackie Robinson, Dr. Bath, George Washington Carver, Sarah Boone, and Garnville Woods.  Please come out and support the kids from 5:30pm-6:00pm.  Refreshments will be served.

Lee Health 2018.jpgThank you to Lee Health employees that came out to help make Geraci GREAT! Also thank you to the parent volunteers who came out and helped.  You all are the best.

Reading To Kids Creates Habit

It’s never too soon to read to a child.  There’s no set timetable.  Each child learns to read at his or her own pace.  But forget the flashcards!  The most important factor in reading development is whether or not a child was read to regularly.

  • Make reading a priority.   Do it every day.Reading.jpg
  • Keep a variety of books around---pattern, board, plastic, pop-up and noise-making.
  • Never withhold stories as a form of punishment.
  • Encourage questions about words and pictures.
  • Take advantage of “environmental print” you see in daily travels.
  • Make sure your child has a comfortable spot to read.
  • Be a role model.

Parents if your child is sick please keep them home. This year’s flu season is not being nice to us, and we want to keep everyone in good health. If your child exhibits a temperature, fatigue, diarrhea or vomiting please take them to see a doctor before returning to school.

Hand, foot and mouth disease, is also going around. This is contagious and also requires that your child remains at home until cleared by a doctor. Some signs of hand, foot and mouth disease are a rash around the mouth, hand and or foot. It is easily spread. Symptoms include fever, sore throat, feeling unwell, irritability, and loss of appetite.

1/2 cup frozen raspberries
1 small carton of yogurt
1/2 Cup ice cubes

Place strawberries, raspberries and juice in blender. Blend several seconds.  If you would like a thicker smoothie add more fruit or for a drinkable smoothie add 1/4 Cup more juice.  This is one of those Valentine recipes that can be used year round.
