FORT MYERS, FLA., July 19, 2011 – Friends and co-workers from as far away as Tennessee and Colorado celebrated the 30th anniversary of Dr. Marjorie Wilson with Child Care of Southwest Florida July 15.

About 50 people attended a surprise luncheon in Wilson’s honor at Edison State College, where Wilson currently is an adjunct professor teaching early childhood courses. She also continues to work with Child Care of Southwest Florida as an instructor of the Florida Child Care Professional Credential.

Wilson first joined Child Care of Southwest Florida as an education consultant in 1981, but quickly became the education director for the non-profit agency for most of her career, supervising the work of 20 early childhood educators.

Nancy Coker, operations director of Child Care of Southwest Florida, said thousands of Southwest Florida children received their early childhood education during Wilson’s tenure as education chief at the not-for-profit organization.

She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wellesley College in Boston, her Master of Arts degree from Boston University and her Doctor of Education degree from Nova Southeastern University in Miami.
