My Magic BreathLast year, we had a great day when a few of the Rasmussen’s Administrative staff came in and read to the Lion classroom in recognition of the Week of the Young Child. The Week of the Young Child is April 8th- 12th and we are excited to have them come read to our classes again.

The featured book this year is, “My Magic Breath” by Nick Ortner and Alison Taylor.

Messina 2018 (7)cThe Lion Classroom is hosting a Book Buddie Tea Party on April 26th at 10:30AM.  The children so love their books and are super excited when one of the “Buddies” hand delivers the book to the classroom.  Thus, an invite to all of the Book Buddies to come and share tea and cookies with their buddy.  Children are already talking about, “their book buddy coming to read to them.”  We will have guests from the Early Learning Coalition, our Book Buddies and parents and friends joining us.  Mark your calendar!  This is a very fun event.  Watch your children display their “Tea Party” manners and see the joy on their faces when they meet their “Buddy.”

1000 books.pngThe Lee County Library has reached out to Messina to bring books into the classroom for children and teachers to enjoy.  We value our partnership with the Library System and have been busy asking parents to fill out their Library Card Application.  We are looking forward to our children spending time with their parents at the library building a life long love of reading!!  If you have not filled out your Library Card Application please see the office staff.

sanibel sea school

Sanibel Sea School is partnering with Messina to bring the oceans to our center.  The school age and the VPK program children will participate in monthly activities in the classroom and school agers will attend a monthly field trip to the Sanibel Causeway.  We are so privileged to have this opportunity brought to our center.  Char and Johnny, Sanibel Sea School Staff, facilitate the classroom activity and the field trip.  Children were excited to see the fish Johnny brought in to share with the VPK children.  On April 17 the school agers go on their field trip to the Causeway. What better way to learn about our oceans than to take the children on a day of discovery. Children get wet as they explored Sanibel's unique marine habitats. Children will learn to use the seine nets and scanned the nets for the possibility of finding a seahorse, small fish and other inhabitants of the Gulf.

PATHS curriculumThe PATHS® curriculum is a comprehensive program for promoting emotional and social competencies and reducing aggression and behavior problems in elementary school-aged children while simultaneously enhancing the educational process in the classroom. This innovative curriculum is designed to be used by educators and counselors in a multi-year, universal prevention model. The Lion and Bumblebee classrooms will be participating twice weekly.  Although primarily focused on the school and classroom settings, information and activities are also included for use with parents.  Please see Pam or Will if you would like to introduce the parent portion to your children.  Parents are welcome to join us.

Children from the Bumblebee and Lion Classrooms have been invited by the Page Field Convalescent Center to participate in their annual Easter Egg Hunt.  The residents host the party and children hunt for eggs.  This is an exciting event for the residents as it may be the only opportunity they have to interact with children.
