Five Surprising Facts About Early Childhood Education
Did you know?
1. Preschool can help combat crime, teen pregnancy, and high school dropout rates.
2. Early childhood education has a better return on investment than the stock market.
3. The U.S. lags behind almost every other country when it comes to preschool, including Mexico, Chile, and Russia.
4. Early childhood matters because experiences early in life can have a lasting impact on later learning, behavior, and health.
5. In the first five years of life, your child’s brain develops more and faster than at any other time in his life. Your child’s early experiences – the things she sees, hears, touches, smells and tastes – stimulate her brain, creating millions of connections. This is when the foundations for learning, health and behavior throughout life are made.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM
through the Lee County Library System
This year, from May 22 to August 9, the Lee County Library System hopes to inspire our community to “Build a Better World.” Find activities and events for you and your children.
Some activity challenges include:
The floor is lava! Play this favorite game by strategically placing pillows, cushions, and other items on the ground. Leap from one side of the room to the other with your preschooler avoiding the lava floor.
Preschoolers are always on the go! But it doesn’t mean they’re not listening to you. Try reading out loud to your child while they play or explore.
Encourage your child to read aloud to a favorite stuffed animal or pet. It’s okay if your child is not yet a proficient reader. They can “read” the story by describing what’s happening in the pictures.
Think of an act of kindness you can do this week with your preschooler.
"Everything we do improves the lives of children.”
