4th july cookout

The Fourth of July is our country’s birthday and your child will be excited to celebrate Independence Day.  There are many activities for families with young children such as parades, firework displays, cook-outs and dinners with family and friends. Including your children in preparing for celebrations help them feel they have an important role in making the event special.  Let them help make decorations for the Fourth of July cookout or picnic, let them prepare a dessert or snack, encourage them to organize or create a game, etc.

If you go to the Red, White & Tunes 4th of July Celebration at Barron Park to watch the fireworks display, don't forget to bring earplugs or noise-canceling head- phones your child can wear during the display.  Loud noises may frighten a young child.  To learn more about fireworks safety visit  Have a safe and happy Fourth of July!

With the summer heat coming into full effect here in Florida, we want to make sure your children are protected.  The KidsHealth website has information regarding how to keep our children safe and protected. Also, we ask that you apply sunscreen to your child before you bring them to school.  Thank you in advance!

Red, White, and Blue Flag Toast

This is a recipe that your children can make.

4 thick slices brioche
1 package cream cheese, softened
4 teaspoons strawberry jam
1 cup fresh blueberries
1 banana, sliced lengthwise and into half rounds

Toast slices of bread.  Spread each piece of toast with 2 tablespoons cream cheese.  Spread 1 teaspoon strawberry jam over the cream cheese except on the upper left quarter.

Make 3 rows of 3 blueberries each in the upper left quarter, creating "stars."  Make 3 rows of banana pieces, starting adjacent to the middle row of berries. Place the remaining 2 rows beneath the last row of berries, creating the "stripes'.
