We have been fortunate to partner with the Gartner Group and United Way to bring together volunteers to build Mud kitchens for our playgrounds.  Home Depot has generously donated pallets, fasteners and hand tools to facilitate the construction.  We would love it if parents would bring in all of the special pieces which could include; spoons, sieves, measuring cups, pans, pots, and more.  The children will have a blast making mud delectable.

July 20th, from 5:30pm-6:30pm
Presented by:  SWF Extension Service

Join us for our July Parent Workshop in our initiative to bring healthy foods and lifestyles to parents.  These 15 minute cycle workshops enable parents to attend, receive valuable information and still get home in time for dinner.  We encourage all of our parents to attend to help us help you become a healthy and active family.  We will have samples of tasty, healthy snacks, prepared by the School Age children in the Care Club. Parents may enjoy their delicious snack during the 15 minute training on July 20th from 5:30-6:30PM.

School Age and VPK children will be participating with the UF/IFAS Extension Family Nutrition Program beginning on July 19th and ending on August 30th.  VPK children will participate in “The Organ Wise Guy”, and school age children will be participating in, “Gardening for Nutrition, Lessons for Sprouts.”  Both programs fit in nicely with our Community Gardens.

34560783_10215160239775245_4516153275610824704_n-1I would like to thank my school age gardening helpers this month.  Chervon Delne, Brianna Cheese and Amayah Garner, all three helped pick the last of the green beans to share with their families.  They removed the old bean plants and planted new seeds.  The new plants are looking great already.  They have been watering and fertilized last week.  It is so great to have some gardening buddies!

Thank you!

Hurricanes & Bad Weather

Hurricane season begins June 1st, and we want to be prepared. During the summer months if a hurricane is approaching, you need to listen to your radios for closings.  Child Care of Southwest Florida follows the Lee County School Board Bad Weather Closing Schedule.  Please tune into your local weather station.  If school is called off or closes early the center will follow suit.  Please be prepared for alternative care in the event of bad weather closures.

Be Sure to check out our Facebook page!

Here are some snack suggestions for July:

  • Steamed green beans and deviled eggs
  • Using a melon ball, scoop watermelon and freeze for a tasty frozen treat, serve with a glass of low-fat milk
  • Whole-grain tortillas spread with guacamole and black beans
  • Pineapple chunks skewered on whole-grain pretzel sticks

Rates Change on August 13th

As of August 13th rates will increase by $1.00 per day for the pre-school children. The After School rate will increase to $90.00 part time and $120.00 full time.  We will no longer have the $50.00 school age rate.  Yolanda will be asking parents to complete a new fee agreement.  So, mark your calendars!
