The Children's Learning Center at FSW News

The Fourth of July is our country’s birthday and your child will be excited to celebrate Independence Day.  There are many activities for families with young children such as parades, firework displays, cook-outs and dinners with family and friends. Including your children in preparing for celebrations help them feel they have an important role in making the event special.  Let them help make decorations for the Fourth of July cookout or picnic, let them prepare a dessert or snack, encourage them to organize or create a game, etc. The center will be CLOSED Wednesday, July 4 for observance of The Independence Day Holiday.  Have a great day with your family and friends celebrating at the beach, on a picnic, or watching fireworks!  Remember to be safe!

VPK 2019

Do you know someone who is looking for a VPK program for fall 2019?  We still have a few spaces left.  Any child that turns 4 years old on or before September 1st is eligible.  Spread the word!

children brainThe most active time for the brain to make the necessary connections for language is during the first five years of life.  It is during this time that adults need to be most active in talking and reading with children.  The more children hear a variety of words, the more they will understand and learn, and the more they understand and learn, the more likely  they will become good readers.

When adults share books with young children, they are looking at the pictures and  listening to the words that are being read to them.  During this time, their brains are making connections between what they are hearing and seeing.  When the story is connected with something the child is familiar with, the more likely she is to remember it, and the more often the same story is read, the stronger that brain connection will be.

Child Care of Southwest Florida follows the Lee County School Board Bad Weather Closing Schedule.  Please tune into your local weather station.  If school is called off or closes early the center will follow suit.  Please be prepared for alternative care in the event of bad weather closures.

I know that many of you are asking about December and what is happening at that time. (If you don’t know, the center’s lease is NOT being renewed by the college.  They are re-purposing the building into a Mail Distribution Center and a home for Facilities.)

We are actively searching for a place to move, but have not found a place suitable for our needs.  I will keep you up-dated as the weeks move on.

CHEXMIX.jpg1 bag (8.75 oz) Chex Mix™ Honey Nut snack mix
1/4 cup dried blueberries
1/4 cup dried cranberries
1/4 cup roasted sunflower seeds
2 cups white chocolate chips
1/2 cup M&M's™ chocolate candies red and blue

In a large bowl, combine the snack mix, blueberries, cranberries, and sunflower seeds.

Place the white chocolate chips into a medium, microwave-safe bowl. Melt in the microwave on High for 60-90 seconds then stir. Melt for an additional 30-60 seconds, if needed.

Drizzle the melted chocolate over the snack mix, and stir until well coated. Turn the mix out onto a large piece of wax paper, sprinkle with blue and red candies, then allow the white chocolate to stand at room temperature for about 1 hour to harden. To serve, break the mix up into large chunks.

Annual Registration of $50 per child will be added to your fees on July 19, 2019.  You may pay this at any time.

Ms. Rita is no longer at our center.  She has chosen to move on to different opportunities.  We wish her well!!

The children that were enrolled in the Coral Room are now with Ms. Julie, Edina, and Miranda in the Yellow Room.  They are used to playing with the children in the Yellow Room, so they have adjusted to their new environment quickly.
