Featuring this month - Ms. Mary Merrickes

Mary MerrickesI have been with CCSWFL for over 30 years and have experience with all age groups. I have my CDA and Director’s Credential along with many other great trainings. I am the youngest of 14 children and I have 6 children of my own, including a set of twins!! I pursued a career in education because I wanted to make a difference in my own children’s lives as well as the lives of other children I encounter. My philosophy is, “Children are the world’s smallest computers.  They are willing and waiting to be programmed with fundamental knowledge, values, reason, and language  so that they can have a strong foundation to become whatever their minds can fathom or dream up!” I strive for helping children reach beyond the stars!

Rorary Club Books 2020

Teen leaders from the Community Interact Club of Fort Myers presented a “Little Library” to the center to promote literacy in the community.  The Interact youth, sponsored by the Rotary Club Of Fort Myers, purchased bookcases, painted cheerful designs on them, and collected children’s books to fill the shelves.

The teens also taught water safety to the preschool aged children using the Josh the Otter method of always having a buddy with you when going near water. Each child was given their own Josh the Otter book to take home.

Lets Move CalendarThe "Get Moving Today Activity Calendar" developed by Head Start Body Start provides fun ways to help preschoolers be active. Check out the March Calendar. There is an activity you can do at home with your child every day of the month!

Broiled Zucchini Pizza

3-4 zucchini, 8-10 inches long
1 tsp. season salt
1 tsp. Italian Herb Blend (or your favorite herb seasoning)
about 3/4 lb. grated mozzarella
about 20 slices pepperoni, cut in half

Preheat broiler and put rack into middle position or about 4 inches away from broiler.
Wash zucchini and cut off ends.
Cut into slices about 3/8 inches wide. It’s important that all zucchini slices are same width so they can cook evenly.
Spray a large baking sheet with non-stick spray.
Cover baking sheet completely with zucchini rounds, putting them as close together as possible.
Sprinkle each zucchini piece with the season salt and Italian Herb Blend.
Completely cover top of zucchini with grated cheese.
Broil until cheese is starting to melt, about 3 minutes.
Cut pepperoni slices in half while the cheese is starting to melt, then sprinkle the cut pepperoni slices over the partially melted cheese.
Broil about 3-4 minutes more, or until the pepperoni is slightly crisped and the cheese is starting to brown.
