cinco de mayo

Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that recognizes the victory of the Mexican army over the French army on May 5, 1862, at the Battle of Puebla.  Contrary to popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day. Mexican independence is celebrated September 16th.

Students and parents take the week to do something to let their teacher(s) (past or present) know that they are appreciated.  This could be anything such as a nice card, an email, a gift card, or a piece of chocolate.  The important thing is that you let your teacher know how much you appreciate their hard work and patience.  Thank you for all you do teachers!

Please make sure you RSVP by May 3rd if you will be participating in the Mother’s Day Breakfast on Wednesday May 8th from 9am-10am.

The Haitian flag has long been a symbol of pride for Haiti. Haitian Flag Day on Friday, May 17, is all about celebrating the culture and heritage of the Haitian flag, which is emblazoned with the country’s coat of arms and the colors red and blue, adopted from the French flag. Haiti gained its independence from colonial rule in 1804, making it the first country in Latin America and the Caribbean to do so, and the second republic to defeat a European colonial power in the Americas. Let’s show support by wear red and blue.

Parents it is crucially important for you to sign in your children in and out daily using the fingerprint machine! This is mandatory for DCF and ELC purposes.  If you do not sign in your child(ren) in or out you will be charged $5 per child per sign in or outAfter the 3 consecutive time you will be charged the daily rate for that day, and it must be paid the following day in order for your child to remain in care. This rule is not negotiable and will be upheld.  We are mandated to have a parent to sign in and out daily and we will ensure that it happens.  Thank you for your cooperation!

1 piece string cheese.  (You can also use just half of one, sliced lengthwise).
8-10 green grapes, sliced in half
3 strawberries
1 baby carrot

To make this guy, simply place a piece of string cheese in the center of the plate.  Next, slice your green grapes in half and lie them on the plate as the outline of the butterfly’s two wings.  Slice strawberries and fill in the outline formed by the grapes.  Next, slice two round slices from the end of a baby carrot.  Slice two thin sticks, and slice a tiny bit off each stick.  Arrange antennae as shown, place two tiny carrot bits on the string cheese for eyes.  Enjoy!
