3. READ signs posted on the lobby doors and any signs outside your child’s classroom.

The Children's Learning Center at FSW News

Ms. Stephanie (Red Room) is retiring.  Her last day at the center will be Friday, May 3.  Ms. Stephanie has been at The Children’s Learning Center at FSW since July 6, 2015.  That was her second time here.  She was previously employed here, ventured away, and then returned to finish her teaching career.  Ms. Stephanie will be splitting her time between Florida and Georgia spending lots of quality time with family.  Stop by the Red Room and wish her well.

New to the center is Carmen Polanco.  Ms. Carmen is not really new to the center, though.  She was first employed here is 2002.  She left and moved to Massachusetts.  But we were lucky that now she is settled back in Florida, she came back to the center.  You can find Ms. Carmen in the Yellow Room.

Eye Contact Get down on the child’s level to achieve eye contact.  As soon as you have eye contact, download calm.  “There you are.  You are safe.  Breathe with me.  You can handle this.”
Being present In the moment means your mind and body are in the same place.  Your mind is free from chatter.  Presence is about acceptance as we join together to share the moment.  The present moment is where the joy lies.
Touch Touch is the only sense we can’t live without.  Touch creates a hormone that is essential to neural functioning and learning.  If we want smart, happy kids, then we need to provide more appropriate, caring touch.
Playfulness Playfulness helps build bonds and creates a biochemistry in the brain for dopamine.  Dopamine says, “Pay attention, stay focused.” Playful situations strengthen the dopamine system, increase attention spans, and boost social development.

focus on fourFOCUS ON FOUR

We are very excited to offer a summer program for our VPK children.  Focus on Four is a summer enrichment program that lasts 8 weeks (June 10 – August 2.)  It will be a continuation of VPK, consistency of routines, and practicing developmental skills.  The curriculum will be based on VPK standards.  We are happy that some of you will be participating in the program that will run from 9am – 1pm Monday – Friday.  If you have not signed up, and want to participate let us know.  (Only Teal Room children are eligible for this program.)

graduationOur celebration will take place Friday night, May 31 at 6:30pm.  It will be held at the center on the playground.  Mark your calendar and we look forward to sharing this fun night with family and friends.

Another great way to stay connected is our Facebook page.  If you have a personal Facebook page, find our page…….The Children’s Learning Center at FSW…… and LIKE it.  Now you will be able to see activities around the center or perhaps even your child.

VPK parents: Have you ordered the Class of 2032 t-shirt for your child? There is still time!!!  Let Ms. Andrea know the size your child needs and remember the money needs to be paid before the shirt can be made.

A sample of the t-shirt is hanging by the Teal Room door.

A field trip to Tanglewood Elementary has been scheduled on May 23rd. VPK children will be spending the morning visiting kindergarten classrooms and seeing what “school” is really all about!  Details are still being made and parents will receive ALL information in the very near future.  We do know that we will be riding a Lee County School bus and that we will need several chaperones.  As soon as all the details are in place, Ms. Jenna or Ms. Martha will let you know.
