Karen Miller's article, "The Dual Challenge: Meeting the Needs of Parents and Babies," discusses the importance of the relationship between the caregiver and the parents in the case of early learning education and child care. See below for four ways that your high-quality early learning educator should, and will, offer support for your early learner and your family.
1. Speaking for you child
Early learners have different facilities in language, be it from age or individual development. High-quality early learning educators understand this, and are experienced in expressing each child's needs to parents in an understandable way. High-quality early learning educators also know to value the relationship they have with the child's parents just as much as the relationship they have with the child. Additionally, these educators provide small updates and progress reports weekly, if not daily, to parents who are available.
2. Caring genuinely for your child and your family
Early learning educators go into the field because they love and want to nurture and educate young children. A true, high-quality early learning educator views the child as a part of the whole—the family unit—and cares for the family just as much as they care for the child.
3. Be a reassuring expert and a sounding board for issues in raising children
In your child's teacher, you have a friend, advocate, and active listener for, and concerning, your child. Your early learner's educator has worked with countless children and has encountered many situations similar to any struggle you may be going through now. They are ready to help and advise you however they can.
4. Preserving the high-quality early learning education and clean and safe environment that were promised upon enrollment
Early learning educators working for high-quality, accredited centers, work tirelessly to maintain the rigorous standards required by their accreditation agency. Additionally, these high-quality early learning educators are devoted to furthering their learning and keeping current in the field. They devote their time to constantly improving and bettering their instruction methods and their facilities.
