Join us on Friday, September 29th for our annual Open House.  Visit your child’s classroom between 9:00 AM and 11:00AM. Parents will have an opportunity to visit the classroom see their children’s work and learn about our curriculum and the importance of family involvement. Classrooms will be providing a snack and will have a surprise for the parents who attend.

Please join your child and teacher on this important day!

EmmyStrawberry.jpgThe Lion and Bumblebee Classrooms will be participating in the Food Literacy in Pre-school Program offered by the Community Cooperative.  (FLIP) provides pre-school children with education about how to make healthy food choices. Volunteers teach a lesson based on a piece of produce. Students are taught about where food comes from, how it is grown, and recipes for using the produce in healthy snacks. The snack and produce are taken home by the children. Periodic meetings with family members also occur so the entire family can learn together and achieve positive outcomes.

CCC 2016 literacy buddyChildren in the preschool classrooms (Dolphin, Lion and Bumblebee) will be participating in the Literacy Buddies Program.  The Early Learning Coalition sponsors the Literacy Buddy Program which provides children with books to take home and share with their families. The program also encourages them to express themselves through correspondence with their adult buddy. Children come to school better prepared to learn when they interact with adults who regularly read, write and talk with them. Children are sending their letters out this month to their Literacy Buddy. We are looking forward to children building their own library at home and learning the joy of reading.

YUM Program begins in the VPK Classroom

YUM engages children in fun activities that are encouraged through exploration, questioning and decision making applied to eating healthy foods. Through the YUM curriculum, children learn by doing. Children are taught about healthy foods, as well as participating in both a hands-on and physical learning activity. The greatest strength of the YUM program was the repeated exposure children were given to the nutrition components found on MyPlate.  Both teachers and children will participate in hands-on engagement and have an opportunity to try all the foods presented to them. Schedule below:
