logo_StarsDid you know your child is attending a NAC accredited, 5 STAR Program and is a Preferred PreK provider? You have chosen a great school for your child’s Early Childhood Education!

5 Stars is the highest rating in the voluntary Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS) used by the Early Learning Coalition of SWFL to improve and communicate the level of quality in early childhood programs.  We were evaluated based on three quality categories:lee county schools

  • Professional Development and Staff Qualifications
  • Learning Environment and Classroom Interactions
  • Screening, Assessment and Curriculum

To become a Preferred PreK Provider we had to first receive a 4 or 5 STAR to participate. Then our teachers and I had to attend trainings, work on goals and complete a list of other criteria. Once completed we are rewarded with professional development, Seal of recognition as a Preferred PreK Provider, materials for our center and the opportunity for our graduating VPK students to visit a feeder school in our area before they head off to Kindergarten. This is a great experience for our kids!

1. This month you will find a cut out in your child’s family folder (you will also find extra ones by the front entry way). Please take as many as you want.

2. Every time you read a book to your child, write his/her name and the name of the book on the cut out and present it to your child’s teacher.

3. At the end of the month the classroom that has the most cut outs in each age group will win 2 new books for their classroom library!

Who will win the reading competition? Good Luck!!

WHY IS PLAY IMPORTANT??CCC 2016 (4)a dramatic play blog

Through play children learn cognitive skills that include problem solving, remembering, decision making, processing information and learning language. During play, children develop foundational understanding in math, science, social studies and physical and emotional concepts.  Below are different types of play that are important to understand how your child learns best.

Solitary play: A child plays alone (one child takes care of a doll by himself).
Parallel play: Children play side by side during an activity without interacting (two children stand next to each other at the water table but don’t talk or use materials together).
Cooperative play: Children plan, discuss and implement their play together (two or more children build a highway out of blocks).
Symbolic play: Children use one object to represent another object during play (a child holds a block up to her ear as a phone and starts talking).
Sociodramatic play: Children take on roles (a child crawls and barks, pretending to be the family dog).

Child Care of Southwest Florida follows the Lee County School Board Bad Weather Closing Schedule. Please tune into your local weather station. If school is called off or closes early the center will follow suit. Please be prepared for alternative care in the event of bad weather closures.
